Johnson Residence, Del Mar :: Designed by the award winning Christopher-Kakur Architectural firm, we built this 2,600 square foot home from the ground up. The owners’ deep affection for Spain influenced the house’s cobblestone central courtyard with illuminated water fountain as well as the barrel-vaulted outdoor dining room that hearkens back to the soaring cathedrals of Andalusia. Overlooking Torrey Pines Reserve and the Pacific, the home features custom cabinetry throughout, built-in bookshelves for the owners' extensive book collection, oak and limestone flooring, and a custom kitchen with granite slab counter tops and an outdoor barbecue and wet bar. The home is also extensively wired with a whole-house audio-video, computer, and security network. Winnick-Arriola Residence, Rancho Stanta Fe :: The Winnick-Arriola residence in Rancho Santa Fe welcomes visitors with a dramatic set of birch, mahogany, and purple heart doors that Del Mar Building Company hand-crafted in its workshop. Featured in the Union-Tribune Home Magazine, the extensive project involved remodeling the owners’ kitchen so it was exposed to the rest of the house. The kitchen and its Volga blue granite countertops and massive stainless steel cooking island became the home’s centerpiece—an essential requirement for a family that loves to travel, cook, and entertain. Because the owners are also passionate about wine, the job also added an extensive wine room and tasting bar just off the kitchen. The contemporary home’s bathrooms were redesigned to flood them with light, which in turn illuminates a free-standing tub and stunning floor-to-ceiling shower surrounded by glass on one side and hand-laid cobalt-blue glass tiles on the other.
